DEHRADUN: In a bid to ensure better voter turnout, a school in the city is offering additional marks of five to every student whose parents vote and share a picture of their inked finger on a special WhatsApp group of the school. The school authorities said that the move has been taken to encourage active participation of people in the state assembly polls on February 15.

“We have almost 1,200 students in our school. The management wanted to come up with something innovative to ensure parents vote without being persuaded. However, we found that the only way it could be done was by showing them that their vote had something lucrative in store for their children,” said managing director of

, Vipin Baluni, adding that five marks will be added in the student’s final exam.

announced about the incentive in the morning assembly. “Children must encourage their parents to vote on February 15. Even if parents feel that a certain candidate is unfit or corrupt, students must still encourage them to vote. They can probably opt for ‘none of the above-NOTA’ option in that case. Under all circumstances they must cast their vote, and children should tell them that they will only go for any outing on that day, once their parents have voted,” she announced.

It is learnt that 2.5 marks will be added if either of the parents vote and a total of five marks will be added if both vote. The parents will have to share a selfie or a picture with the indelible ink on their finger on the group especially created by the school for the purpose.
