Bageshwar: A 35-year-old bank employee died after his car plunged nearly 60 metres into a gorge in Marchula area of Almora district on Saturday morning, police said.
Subhash Singh Bisht was a resident of Kachnal Gazi in Kashipur, US Nagar district, and worked as head cashier at a Punjab National Bank (PNB) branch in Thalisain, Pauri Garhwal district. Police said Bisht left the bank on Friday evening and was travelling to his home for the weekend when the accident took place.
Police said Bisht's car lost control on the state highway near Kuphi bend in Talla Salt area and fell into the gorge. Passersby noticed the accident and alerted authorities. A team from Salt police station arrived at the scene and launched a rescue operation. They pulled the victim out of the severely damaged vehicle with help from locals.
Salt SHO Kashmir Singh said, "By the time Bisht was brought out of the mangled vehicle, he had already succumbed to his injuries. His family members later reached the site. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Further investigation into the incident is underway."
