DEHRADUN
: Uttarakhand high court declined to grant security to Rahul Bhati, a resident of Haridwar, who sought protection citing alleged threats to his life and property and ransom demands from a Pakistani phone number. The court directed him to cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
A single-judge bench of Justice Rakesh Thapliyal passed the order while hearing the petition. During the hearing on Friday, Dehradun SSP Om Prakash Semwal appeared before the court via video conferencing in compliance with earlier directions.
The SSP informed the court that, based on the investigation so far, there was no threat to the complainant’s life or property.
The court directed the govt to submit a progress report by April 16 and summoned original records from the under secretary concerned. It also expressed dissatisfaction with the submission made by the under secretary during the hearing.
The SSP said records related to the mobile phone from which the threats and ransom messages were sent had not been provided despite requests.
The complainant had reported receiving threats and ransom demands through a mobile phone he had already sold.
