Dehradun: The Uttarakhand cabinet on Wednesday gave approval to the Joshimath rehabilitation policy to provide compensation to the residents of the hill town who have been affected by land subsidence. While the state has announced compensation for houses and shops, it is still awaiting the report from the National Disaster Management Authority to decide on the package for land compensation. The rehabilitation policy for Joshimath has been divided into three parts – rates, alternatives and conditions. As far as the rates for the houses are concerned, it has been decided to give compensation in accordance with the rate decided by the CPWD and also add the cost index to it.
