As rain continues to lash Doon, fitness freaks of the city are having a hard time deciding on their
exercise
routines. Unable to head out and go for running and
jogging
,
Doonites
are resorting to exercising indoors. So climbing the stairs has replaced a brisk walk while skipping workouts have replaced running.
‘I HAVE GIVEN UP ON MY WALKS AND AM CLIMBING STAIRS INSTEAD’
Monica, a freelance writer from Canal Road, says, “I am addicted to morning walks but since the past one week, I have not been able to go out because of the rains. Walking in the evenings is also not possible as it is raining intermittently throughout the day. So I have given up on my walks for now and have started exercising indoors. I go up and down the stairs of my house, at least 50 times in morning and evening, to stay fit.”

‘I AM PRACTISING
YOGA
AT HOME BUT I MISS MY OUTDOOR EXERCISE SESSIONS’
Sonali, a college student and a resident of Old Survey Road, says, “I go for morning walks daily and would also do yoga at a park near my house. But since it rains every morning these days, I am unable to go out to exercise. Though I have started doing yoga at home, it is not the same. You don’t get that peaceful ambience of the park, with greenery all around, but I don’t have any option.”

‘MY FAMILY IS ANNOYED WITH ME EXERCISING FERVENTLY AT HOME BUT I HAVE NO OPTION NOW’
Lalit, a government employee and a resident of Canal Road, says, “My house is not that spacious, so I would skip daily at a garden near my house. It is an important part of my daily exercising routine but these days I am forced to do my skipping workout inside my drawing room or in the balcony. My family is all irritated with my skipping routine as the noise wakes them up early in the morning. It is difficult for me too to skip in such a small space but I guess, for the time being, my family and I both will have to adjust.”
Anubhav, a college student and a resident of Nehru Colony, says, “I study in a college in Chandigarh and I am here for my summer holidays. In college, I would run daily but this is not possible in Doon now as it rains almost daily. I have been home for two weeks and have already gained four kilos. To avoid gaining more weight, I have started doing skipping and
zumba
inside my house. Yes, the loud music that I play while doing zumba disturbs my parents a little, but I can’t afford to gain more weight.”
‘MY HABIT OF WAKING UP EARLY IN THE MORNING HAS TAKEN A BACK SEAT’
Reeta, a homemaker from Arya Nagar, says, “I would go for walk every morning at around 5.30 but from past one week it has been raining almost every day and my habit of getting up early has also taken a back seat. I do walk inside my house, from one room to another, but that doesn’t help much.”
