The highest number of cases have been reported from Haridwar (44) followed by state capital Dehradun (26), Tehri Garhwal (24) Nainital (13) and Pauri (1).

According to health

department officials

, lack of awareness and proper sanitation have contributed significantly to the spurt in dengue cases. Majority of cases in Haridwar have surfaced from Roorkee (16), Padli Gujjar village (10), Rampur (2), Salimpur (2) and Teliwala (2). Confirming the rise in dengue cases in the district, chief medical officer Dr Prem Lal said, “We have conducted fogging and spraying of larvicides in over 4,000 houses. We are also spreading awareness among locals about ways to check the spread of the disease.”

Subhash Joshi, district malaria officer of Dehradun, said, “Eight persons in the district are suspected to have contracted the disease during their trips to Delhi and Bangalore.”

State’s first dengue death was registered on August 29, wherein a 38-year-old man from Pauri succumbed to the mosquito-borne virus in Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust, Jolly Grant.
