Congress state chief

Kishore Upadhyay

told TOI, “There is no doubting the fact that the party is coming to power with a two-third majority. It was only the hard work done by the Congress in the last five years which prompted people to vote for the party in large numbers.” According to Upadhyay, there was no anti-incumbency wave in the state and the BJP “lacked any vision or plan” for the polls.
On the other side, BJP spokesman Vinay Goel said that it was the magic of the party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi which had led to the high turnout and would translate into them forming the government. “Youth and women in large numbers came out to cast their vote for the BJP because they were fed up with the rampant corruption in Uttarakhand,” he said, adding that the party was on its way to win over 50 seats in the state.

BJP national secretary Teerath Singh Rawat claimed that the high turnout of youth was an indication of the fact that they have voted for the party to eradicate corruption from the society. “It also reveals the high awareness level among youngsters. They realise their responsibility and therefore came out in large numbers to cast votes,” Teerath said. He maintained that youth across the country were inspired by PM Modi. “Therefore, we are confident of forming a government with full majority,” he added.
CM Harish Rawat cast his vote at the ITI polling station in Niranjanpur area and said, “BJP has been involved in a negative campaign for the last one year and we have spoken about development and progress. I am confident of Congress forming the government.”
