Kunwar Pranav Singh Champion bats for ticket for his wife, says MP Nishank has been ‘missing’

ROORKEE: BJP legislator from Khanpur

Kunwar Pranav Singh ‘Champion’

has demanded a party ticket for his wife Devyani Singh to contest

Lok Sabha elections

from Haridwar, claiming that a local candidate should contest from the constituency.

Champion

also kicked up a controversy after he criticised BJP MP from Haridwar Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank for allegedly not carrying out developmental works in his constituency.“The incumbent MP has failed to carry out developmental works in Haridwar during his tenure as an MP in the last five years. Ahead of the enforcement of the model code of conduct for polls, he started laying foundation stones for various developmental works, otherwise he has been missing from Haridwar. He had adopted a village from my constituency but nothing has been done by him in that village,” the MLA said.

Champion, who belongs to the Gujjar community, said that Haridwar, which is home to several castes from the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category, needs a local representative in Parliament. “A local person can best represent hopes and expectations of people from the district. I believe that my wife Devyani Singh who has a strong political legacy, will fit the bill perfectly,” he said.

Champion, a four-time MLA, had joined the BJP from the Congress in 2016 when nearly 10 Congress MLAs had rebelled against then CM Harish Rawat.
