DEHRADUN: Only five candidates, including BJP's

at Srinagar seat, turned up at Collectorate offices to file their papers on the first day of nomination for the February 15 Uttarakhand polls.

While two nomination papers were filed for separate seats of Dehradun district, one paper each was filed for Haridwar, Pauri and Chamoli seats.

BJP candidate Dhan Singh Rawat filed his nomination papers from Srinagar seat in Pauri district while CPI (ML) candidate Indresh Maikhuri filed it for

Karnprayag

constituency of Chamoli district.

Purohit filed his nomination papers for Doiwala seat and Independent candidate Anil Kumar Gupta filed his set of papers for Dharampur seat.

At Haridwar, Mahipal Singh, an Independent candidate filed his set of nomination papers from Laskar constituency.

The last date for filing nomination papers is January 27 and the last day for withdrawal of candidature is February 1. In between, there will be scrutiny of the nomination papers.

Dehradun district magistrate (DM) Ravinath Raman told TOI: “Almost 76 nomination forms were taken, but only two nomination papers were filed on the first day. Things went smoothly, we hope even in the coming days, there should be no hassle.”
