Uttarakhand: 350 poll centres with no mobile connectivity identified

Uttarakhand Police

has identified 350 polling centres as ‘shadow areas’ which means they have poor or no

mobile connectivity

. Cops deployed on poll duty in these areas will use wireless to communicate messages to the district election office. In addition, the Election Commission (EC) has identified nine locations under ‘expenditure sensitive’ pockets. The EC would keep a close watch on poll expenses by candidates in these areas.


Inspector general (law and order) Deepam Seth said that the state had the required number of wireless sets to cover the shadow areas. “We have 1,800 static sets and 2,500 handheld sets. A request has been made for 1,000 more static sets and 900 mobile handsets.”
