3 arrested for raping 16 year girl
PITHORAGARH: Three men were arrested for allegedly gang raping a 16-year-old girl while she was alone at home. Two more accused are yet to be arrested, said police.
The girl’s father had filed a complaint at Gangolihat police station on Aug 6 alleging his daughter had been raped. An FIR was filed based on his complaint under Sections 376 (3) (rape of woman under sixteen years), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke peace) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.
Two of the men aged 40 and 26 were arrested on Friday while another 36-year-old man was apprehended on Sunday, said police sources. All three were produced before a magistrate and sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
Police sources said the alleged gang rape happened a few months ago, but the girl did not inform her family. She finally confided in her family on Aug 6, prompting her father to file a complaint.
Police assured that dedicated teams are making concerted efforts to apprehend the remaining accused.
