COIMBATORE: Thanks to the police teams from three stations, who locked horns over technicalities of procedures, body of a suicide victim kept hanging from a tree on the crematorium at Athappagoundenpudur on the outskirts of the city for more than six hours on Friday.
Villagers, who found the body around 11am, had informed Sulur police and Irugur village administrative officer.
After reaching the spot, personnel from the Sulur police station however said that the crematorium was not located in the police limits. They informed Peelamedu and Singanallur police stations about the body. Officers from those stations reached the spot and claimed that the crematorium was not under their limits either. All of them refused to take up the case.
“We have the limit till the entrance of Venkittapuram near Chinniyampalayam. It does not include the L&T Bypass Road.,” Peelamedu police inspector V Selvaraj said. Singanallur police personnel also argued that the crematorium area was not under their limit.
After arguing for some time, they decided to contact police superintendent R
Pandiarajan. He instructed Sulur police to take up the case and send the body to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital. It was 6.30pm when the body was sent to the hospital for postmortem.
