Transfer harassment case to CB-CID: AIDWA
Coimbatore: Members of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) on Thursday petitioned superintendent of police R Pandiarajan, urging him to reinvestigate all female suicides reported from Pollachi and surround areas since 2012.
A four-member gang, led by Thirunavukkarasu of Makkinampatti near Pollachi, was arrested a few days ago for harassing a college girl and recording obscene videos of her inside a car. Preliminary investigations revealed that the gang had taken obscene videos and photographs of many women and harassed them since 2012. But none of the victims came forward to lodge police complaint.
The rural police have taken steps to detain the four-member gang under the goondas Act.
An AIDWA team led by district president A Radhika petitioned the SP and said a woman police officer should investigate the cases. “Suicides of women reported from Pollachi and surrounding areas should be reinvestigated as the victims might have taken the extreme step after the gang threatened them. We will approach the Madras high court to get an order to transfer the harassment case to CB-CID police from the rural police,” said Radhika.
The association has lost trust both in the Tamil Nadu state commission for women and the national commission for women, she said. “The commissions were not functioning properly for the last five years. We suspect the involvement of functionaries of some political parties in the harassment case. They should be brought to justice.”
