Coimbatore: Three MBA students were swept away while they were taking bath in Bhavani River at Mampatti near Mettupalayam in Coimbatore district on Sunday.
Police identified them as S Surendran, 24, of Chithanaickenpalayam near Sulur in Coimbatore district, V Rajadurai, 22, of Anna Salai in Karur and K Kanishk, 24, of Chennai, students of a private college on Avinashi Road in Peelamedu.
Ten students from the college had reached Mampatti on five motorcycles on Sunday around 10.30am. “While they were bathing in the river, water was released for power generation from Pillur dam. As the river swelled, seven students managed to reach the other side. Three students were washed away,” a police officer said.
Fire and rescue services personnel launched a search operation. Coracle riders in the area also helped the personnel. They continued the search till 6pm, but failed to find the trio.
