Supplementary chargesheet filed against Mubarak
COIMBATORE: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed supplementary chargesheet against Mubarak and J Abu alias Syed Abuthagir, the accused in the Hindu Munnani spokesperson Sasikumar murder case, before the special court for NIA cases at Poonamalle in Chennai on Thursday.
Syed Abuthagir, who was out on bail, was booked under Section 18 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, while A Mubarak alias Mohammed Mubarak was booked under Section 302 read with 120 B, 301 read with 34, 153 A (1) (b) of the
As per the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the investigation agency has to file chargesheet against the accused within 180 days of their arrest. “Only then, the accused can face the trial from the prison. In the case of Mubarak, it was his 180th day in judicial custody on Thursday. By filing the chargesheet against him, the NIA has prevented him from coming out of the Salem Central Prison on conditional bail,” said a source privy to the development.
The source added that Mubarak had spilled the beans on the murder when he was sent to the NIA custody for seven days. “Based on his confessional statement, NIA officials had seized a lot of materials. He had also revealed the criminal conspiracy behind the Sasikumar’s murder. So, the officials were busy preparing the chargesheet for the past one month. NIA officials are now expected to make a couple of arrests in the case,” the source said.
The NIA had on April 7 filed chargesheet against two other accused in the case, Sadam alias Sadam Hussain and Subair, before the Poonamalle court.
