Students who clash will face tough action: SP
Coimbatore: The rural police on Thursday said they would soon convene a meeting with representatives of college managements and students to moot ways to prevent clash among the student community on and outside the premises of educational institutions. They also warned the students of stringent action if they were to involve in any clash. “Strict action will be taken against the offenders and they will have to languish in prison,” they said.
The move to sensitize the students comes after an 18-year-old college student was stabbed to death by three students at Hindustan Educational Institutions at Malumichampatti here on Wednesday. “We will study the reasons behind the gang rivalry among the students of educational institutions in rural Coimbatore. We will send a circular to all the colleges asking them to instruct the students not to involve in any clash inside or outside the college premises. The students will be asked to approach police if any problems were to arise among them. If they fail to do so, they will have to face tough legal action,” said R Pandiarajan, district superintendent of police.
Pointing out that there were quite a large number of colleagues in some sub-divisions of the district, the SP said, “I will instruct the deputy superintendents of police to hold a meeting with educational institutions and students in their limits. They will provide instructions to the college managements and also advise the students not to involve in any clash. Stringent action will be taken against the erring students.”
