sexual assault case, the government on Monday issued transfer orders to three police officers,

including superintendent of police R Pandiarajan

,

who had revealed the identity of the victim.

Pandiarajan had not only revealed the identity of the lone complainant in the sensational case but had also failed to take custody of the accused within 15 days of arrest.

Pollachi DSP R Jayaram and Pollachi east police inspector A Natesan were also transferred. The order allocated no postings to the trio, virtually putting them in the waiting list.

Deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Sujit Kumar will take over as SP on Tuesday. KG Sivakumar, DSP, district crime records bureau in Udhagamandalam, has been posted as Pollachi DSP. R Venkataraman, inspector, Naxal special division, has been posted as the inspector of Pollachi east police station.

The action follows in the wake of the sexual assault on a 19-year-old Pollachi girl. Thirunavukkarasu, Sabari Rajan, N Sathish of Suleeswaranpatti and T Vasanthakumar of Pakkothipalayam had sexually assaulted her on February 12. They removed her dress inside a car and recorded videos. The girl managed to escape from them and lodged a police complaint on February 24. Police arrested three of them, except Thirunavukkarasu. He was arrested on March 5 and was lodged in the

Jayaram and Natesan conducted inquiry and arrested the gang but failed to take custody of them within 15 days of arrest.

Meanwhile, opposition parties claimed that AIADMK functionaries had links with the gang members, sought a detailed probe and staged protests. At a press conference, Pandiarajan ruled out political links and revealed the name of the victim.

The Madras high court (Madurai bench) directed the state government to pay Rs 25lakh as compensation to the victim and recommended disciplinary action against the officers. The court also ordered the government to issue a fresh GO without revealing the victim’s identity.
