Police identify 97 accident black spots

Coimbatore: Police have identified 97 accident black spots in the rural areas and plan to install sign boards to create awareness among motorists.

As many as 57 accident black spots are on national highways roads and 40 are on state highways, police superintendent R Pandiarajan said. “With the help of district administration, state and national highways authorities, we will take steps to reduce fatal accidents. The state government has allotted Rs 67 lakh under the road safety fund towards this,” he told reporters on Monday.

As many as 333 people had lost their lives in road accidents since January and police are taking stringent steps to check fatal accidents, Pandiarajan said. During the same period last year, 461 people lost lives.

“One traffic police sub-inspector and six traffic police constables will be deployed on the foot hills of Marudhamalai to regulate traffic. They will also assist the devotees to the temple,” he added. TNN
