SALEM: The half-burnt body of an 80-year-old man was found in his house in Salem city on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Ramasamy of Second Street in Thillai Nagar, Ponnammapet. The Ammapet police began investigations to find out if it was a case of murder.
Ramasamy was living alone. His son, Srinivasan, who is a lawyer, lives elsewhere.
On Thursday morning, neighbours found smoke coming out of the house and went to check. "They found that someone had placed a shutter outside the main door. They removed the shutter, looked into the house and found Ramasamy lying dead on a bed. His body was half burnt,” said a police officer.
On being informed, the Ammapet police rushed to the spot and sent the body to the Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital for postmortem.
They registered a case.
