Grand beginning for ‘Rally for Rivers’

Coimbatore: In a bid to create awareness about dying rivers and to galvanise public support to save water-bodies, volunteers of the

Isha Yoga Center

conducted a

two-wheeler rally

here on Sunday.

As many as 300 people, on 150 two-wheelers, participated in the rally, which was flagged off from Narasipuram Bus Stop. The vehicles, carrying ‘Rally for Rivers’ stickers and flags, passed through more than two dozen villages.

A statement from ISha Yoga Centre said the rally reached out to 25 villages surrounding Isha Yoga Center, including Narasipuram, Santhegoundanpalayam, Devarayapuram and Thondamuthur, covering about 20km.

“300 people in the age group of 18 to 70 participated in the rally. The day-long event started at 8:30am from Narasipuram Bus Stand and went on till 5pm, with a brief stop for lunch,” said a statement.

A similar rally has been planned for August 26, which would cover more villages like Irutupallam, Semmedu and Alandurai.

The riders will also participate in the Rally for Rivers flag-off event organised by Isha on September 3 on VOC Ground at 4pm.
