COIMBATORE: A father-son duo were arrested on Monday night by the crime branch police for cheating an iron merchant by not paying him Rs 1.8 crore for the consignment they had purchased.

Police identified the accused as Paramasivam, 65, and his son P Prabhu, 40, of Race Course in the city. They were running an iron-works unit at Pappanaickenpalayam. They had purchased raw material worth Rs 1.8 crore from Ganesh Babu, an iron dealer in the city. But they were delaying the payment.

To compensate the payment, the father-son duo, meanwhile registered their land at

Aruppukkottai

in Ganesh Prabhu’s name. But later they fraudulently sold a part of the land to another person. Upon knowing this, Ganesh Babu confronted them. But the duo threatened him.

Following this, Ganesh Babu lodged a complaint with the crime branch police, who registered a case and arrested the duo.
