Earthmover overturns on Yercaud Ghat Road

Salem: An earthmover overturned near the 13th hairpin bend on the Yercaud ghat road in Salem district on Saturday. The operator, S Mathi, 32, from Vellalapatty village, had a narrow escape with minor injuries. Police said the accident took place around 1.30pm when he was returning to Salem after completing his work in Yercaud. The vehicle's front wheel axle broke, causing the wheel to detach, and plunged into a 20-foot gorge, landing on the adjacent hairpin bend.Yercaud police assisted the driver and shifted him to the Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital for treatment, where his condition is reported to be stable. Meanwhile, the overturned earthmover caused a two-hour traffic disruption on the Yercaud Ghat Road, until it was removed.A case has been registered, and further probe is on.
