Don’t let drivers park trucks on roadside at night, SP tells owners

COIMBATORE: District superintendent of police R Pandiarajan on Tuesday issued a strict order against parking trucks on roadsides at night. “They are advised to use truck bays. The SP said this while addressing a meeting with office-bearers of various truck owners’ association at the conference hall of the district police office on SBI Road in the city.

Pandiarajan also asked truck owners to recruit drivers properly and ensure that they don’t consume alcohol while driving. “Selection of drivers is very important and their background should be checked thoroughly.” Pointing out that three trucks were stolen from

and surrounding areas recently, he requested them to fix GPS device in their trucks as it would help police easily track stolen vehicles.

Truck owners, however, said there were practical difficulties in fixing GPS in vehicles. They requested the SP to instruct cops not to conduct vehicle checks on narrow roads. “Cops often conduct vehicle checks on narrow roads in Annur and Pollachi. It may lead to fatal accidents in future.”

Truck drivers, meanwhile, requested the SP to take stringent action against transgenders, who often waylaid vehicles on L&T bypass road, Mettupalayam Road, Neelambur on Avinashi Road at night and snatch money from motorists.
