ERODE: A couple and their two daughters died by suicide by jumping into the Palar river near the Tamil Nadu-Karnataka border in the district on Tuesday. The deceased were identified as M Yuvaraj, 41, of Dadagapatty in Salem, his wife Vanvizhi, 31, and their daughters Nithiksha, 7, and Apsara, 3.
According to the Bhavani division DSP G Amirthavarshini, she received information about four bodies found floating in the river in the Sennampatty forest area. “We rushed to the spot and fished out the bodies,” the DSP said, adding that they had sent the bodies to the Andhiyur government hospital for post-mortem.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that the four were missing from their house since December 26. Yuvaraj’s brother Sathish Kanna, 39, had lodged a complaint with the Annadhanapatty police following which they had registered a missing case.
The DSP said, “Sathish Kanna confirmed that the deceased was his brother and his family.” “The reason for their extreme step was that their elder daughter was a diabetic. The younger daughter too was recently confirmed a diabetic,” the DSP said. Police seized a suicide note from the victim’s house. A case was registered.
