Coimbatore woman accuses flying squad team of harassing her
COIMBATORE: A Coimbatore woman has accused flying squad team (FST) officials of harassing her mentally after seizing Rs 50,000 from her.
Suresh Babu, 43, of Karunanidhi Nagar at SIHS Colony in Coimbatore city owns a grinder manufacturing unit at Nava India. His wife Surya Priya, 34, handles the accounts of the unit.
On Saturday, Priya was going to the company on a scooter. She carried Rs 50,000 in cash. She was intercepted by a FST team near Singanallur. The officials checked her vehicle and found Rs 50,000 in cash.
“One of the members from the FST asked me to hand over Rs 20 in cash. I told him that I had only Rs 10 in cash which was kept behind the mobile cover. I handed over the amount to him. Immediately, they asked me to visit the South Taluk office where they claimed that Rs 50,010 was seized from me and it was a violation of the model code of conduct,” said Surya Priya.
She added that the officials blackmailed and threatened her for revealing the truth.
“I had a bitter experience, and I went through mental trauma. It was like harassment. After I gave enough documents for the Rs 50,000, the officials returned the amount,” said Surya Priya.
Priya said that she was carrying Rs 50,000 to disburse the salaries to the employees in the unit.
She sent a complaint letter to district collector Kranthi Kumar Pati and Election Commission of India.
Flying squad officials said that they had not harassed her. They said they seized the amount as she did not have any documents. Later, the amount was handed over to her when she produced documents.
