COIMBATORE: Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam members attempted to burn the effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Coimbatore to condemn the central government’s stand against setting up the Cauvery Management Board.

TPDK

state organizer Aruchamy led the protest outside the party office near Thiruvalluvar bus stand. One of the cadres attempted to burn the effigy of the Prime Minister, and he was stopped by police. Ten TPDK members were detained by police.

TPDK members said the central government had failed to take steps to resolve the Cauvery water sharing dispute between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

K Ramakrishnan, general secretary of TPDK, said, “The central government should follow the Supreme Court order and set up the Cauvery Management Board. They state that only parliament can pass this but for the past four years, they have not taken any step. So we held the protest condemning the central government’s stand.”
