Coimbatore: Police on Thursday arrested a 30-year-old woman at

Annalakshmi Nagar

in Kangeyampalayam near Sulur for supplying ganja to local dealers. The Sulur police also seized 50kg of ganja from her.
The accused, Jayapandiyammal, had separated from her husband and was staying in a rental house at Singapore Nagar at

Kombakattupudur

near Mangalam in Tirupur district. She rented a house at Annalakshmi Nagar a few months ago.
Jayapandiyammal’s friend R Rajesh Kannan, 42, of Keeripatti in Madurai district, smuggled ganja from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh in a car and kept it at the Annalakshmi Nagar house. Jayapandiyammal segregated dried ganja leaves and supplied them to local ganja peddlers.
Based on a tip-off, Sulur police inspector

R Mathaiyan

and sub-inspector

Rajendra Prasath

searched the house and found 50kg of ganja.
“Rajesh Kannan bought 1kg of ganja for 12,000 in Andhra Pradesh, and the same was sold to the local ganja peddlers for 50,000. A team has been formed to nab him,” Mathaiyan said. The rural police have seized 226 kg of ganja from April 1 and arrested around 150 ganja peddlers.
