Works of Indian and Korean artists to be displayed in Chennai

CHENNAI: Art from two countries and works of 22 talented

artists

– that’s what Chennaiites have to look forward to. ‘Emerging Canvas V –Indo-Korean Young Artists Exhibition 2018’ will be inaugurated at the Lalit Kala Akademi, Regional Centre, Greams Road on October 31. The exhibition is presented by InKo Centre in association with Indian Art Museum.

This is the fifth edition of the ‘Emerging Canvas’, an annual exhibition series presented in India and

Korea

to showcase the work of talented, emerging young artists from both countries. The works of 11 artists from Korea and 11 from India will be on display.

The Indian artists include Boshudhara Mukherjee, Ezhilarasan E, Laxmipriya Panigrahi, Meenakshi, Murugan Thangaraj, Pankaj Vishwakarma, Sabin Mudappathi, Sameer Rao, Shalini Karn, Raju Gopalarao, and Bhartti Verma.

The Korean artists featured are Jiwon Lee, So-Jung Jung, Chansong Kim,Su-Bin Lim, Ji-beom Lim, Gyu-tae Bang, I-Ram Seo, Tae-gi An, Ye-jin Jun, Ji-min Roh, and Da-gyeom Jung.

The Indian section of this exhibition have been curated by independent curator Vaishnavi Ramanathan while the Korean one is curated by Kim Yang-Shik, director, Indian Art Museum, Seoul. A renowned poet and founder of the Tagore Society in Korea, she was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India for her dedication to promote Indian art and culture, especially Tagore’s philosophy and work, in Korea over the last four decades. The Indian Art Museum, in fact, houses a large collection of Indian art and artefacts collected by Kim Yang-Shik and her late husband.

The exhibition will be open until November 6 (except Sundays) from 10am to 6pm.
