Woman murdered in Chennai; two arrested
CHENNAI: A 65-year-old woman was murdered by three men outside her home in Ennore on Monday. Police arrested two men in connection with the murder.
The murdered woman has been identified as Bhagyam, wife of Ayyavu of 2nd Street in Sathyavani Muthu Nagar in Ennore.
Around 7.30pm, Bhagyam was sitting outside her home. Three men approached her on a motorcycle. They asked her about her grandson whom they were searching. When she denied, one of them took out a sharp weapon and hit her on the head. As she cried for help, the trio sped away.
Neighbours rushed her to a private hospital first and then took her to Government Stanley Hospital. Where she succumbed to injuries.
Ennore police registered a case and started an investigation.
Based on CCTV footage and local intelligence, police detained Ajay and Vikram. Inquiries revealed that in March this year, Bhagyam’s grandson Mahesh along with his friends Vignesh and Santosh Kumar had assaulted Jeevaraj from the same locality. The three were arrested by Ennore police and they came out on bail recently.
Jeevaraj, Ajay and Vikram wanted to retaliate and searched for Vignesh. As he was not to be found, they came in search of Mahesh. They inquired with Bhagyam, who was sitting outside her home. When she refused to tell them about the whereabouts of her grandson, the gang attacked her.
While Ajay and Vikram were arrested, a special team was formed to nab Jeevaraj who was absconding.
