The deceased have been identified as K Manavarthal, 50, and A Sathiya, 35. The injured man, K Sasikumar, 29, was the son of Manavarthal. All three were from Chinna Kottangal village near Tiruvannamalai.

Sasikumar, who worked as a pharmacist in a siddha hospital, was travelling with his mother and Sathiya, who was his neighbour, to drop them at a private nursery where they worked as helpers.

While the trio was crossing Tiruvannamalai Old Government Hospital, a container truck that was going to Puducherry from

Vinayagamoorthy, inspector at Tiruvannamalai town police station, said, “All three of them were taken to Tiruvannamalai Government Medical College and Hospital. Doctors, who checked the women, declared them as dead on arrival.”
