Techie arrested for obscene calls to woman
Cleared - maniChennai: A 31-year-old IT employee from Tiruchi was arrested by Egmore police for making obscene gestures and repeated WhatsApp video calls to a married woman in Chennai.Police identified the accused as Manikandan, who was working at an IT company in Mandeveli. The 27-year-old complainant, a native of Thiruvarur district, is married and has a child. She has been staying with relatives in Egmore.On May 3 evening, the woman received a WhatsApp video call from an unknown number. Police said the caller made obscene gestures during the call and disconnected immediately. A few hours later, the same number repeatedly contacted her through WhatsApp video calls. Suspecting misconduct, the woman recorded the caller's actions using another mobile phone and later approached the Egmore police station with the video evidence.Based on her complaint, police registered a case and launched an investigation. During the inquiry, investigators traced the mobile number and identified the caller as Manikandan from Tiruchi. Police said he was arrested on Friday.The accused was identified with the help of digital evidence provided by the complainant and technical analysis of the mobile number, an officer said.
