Tamil Nadu’s power demand reaches new heights

CHENNAI: The peak power demand in Tamil Nadu breached 20,000MW mark on Monday and went up to 20,125 MW, nearly 800MW more than the maximum power demand recorded in 2023.

Last year's maximum demand of 19,387 MW was breached on March 20 this year. Previously, the all-time high power demand in Tamil Nadu was 19,580MW on April 5.

Tangedco officials said the demand was met without much difficulty and without power cuts. The overall power consumption on Monday was 434.76 million units (mu). Tamil Nadu's solar power generation reached 5,150MW on Monday.
