he Chief Minister inaugurated the new Ukkadam Bus Terminal-1 in Coimbatore through videoconferencing from Chennai, marking a major step to improve public transport infrastructure in the city.
Rs 21.55 crore plan for two bus terminals in Ukkadam
The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation planned the construction of two modern bus terminals in Ukkadam with a total project cost of Rs 21.55 crore to enhance passenger facilities and streamline bus operations.
Terminal-1 built on 3.27 acres at Rs 13 crore cost
The first terminal has been constructed on 3.27 acres of land opposite Ukkadam Periyakulam at a cost of Rs 13 crore, creating a major transport hub for buses operating through the busy Ukkadam area.
28 bus bays with shops and food courts for passengers
The newly built terminal includes 28 bus bays, 14 shops, and two food courts, providing both operational space for buses and commercial amenities for passengers.
Modern passenger facilities at the state-of-the-art terminal
The bus terminal features a spacious waiting area with tensile roofing, seating capacity for 60 passengers, along with a feeding room, public Wi-Fi, and mobile charging facilities to improve passenger comfort.
​Digital bus tracking and security system to be installed
A corporation official said, "Once the data is received, bus numbers, destinations, and arrival and departure timings will be displayed at the entrance for the passengers, which will be similar to the system at airports. As many as 30 CCTV cameras will be installed with a live monitoring room and emergency response systems."
2 Mudhalvar Padaippagam centres opened in city
The Chief Minister also inaugurated Mudhalvar Padaippagam reading and co-working spaces at Prabhu Nagar in Kavundampalayam and Gandhi Maa Nagar, with each facility constructed at a cost of Rs 3.36 crore to support reading and collaborative workspaces for residents.
