Tamil Nadu CM Vijay reviews 436 projects and schemes in first cabinet meeting
CHENNAI: Chief minister C Joseph Vijay on Friday reviewed 436 projects and schemes, including key poll promises made by the TVK ahead of the assembly elections, during his govt’s first cabinet meeting held at secretariat.
The hour-long meeting, which began at 10 am, also focused on the Governor’s forthcoming Assembly address and measures to streamline governance across departments.
Electricity minister R Nirmalkumar said projects and schemes relating to individual departments were assigned to the respective ministers for further action.
“As many as 436 projects and schemes, including the party’s poll promises, were discussed in the cabinet meeting and each minister has been given projects and schemes concerning their respective departments,” he told reporters after the meeting.
He said the discussions centred on achieving a corruption-free and drug-free Tamil Nadu while meeting the aspirations of youngsters and women.
“In the industries department alone, 37 projects were discussed and assigned to the ministry for taking them forward. The CM has instructed ministers to hold discussions with officials of the concerned departments and prepare detailed reports to achieve the targets,” Nirmalkumar said.
Replying to a question on Karnataka’s proposed Mekedatu project, the minister said the Tamil Nadu govt would take all legal steps to oppose it.
“We will take all legal actions to thwart the Mekedatu project,” he said.
