Tambaram corpn launches QR-code to pay taxes

Chennai: The Tambaram corporation launched a QR code-based service delivery system on Wednesday, inspired by the success of Greater Chennai Corporation. This programme is currently in its pilot phase.Three months ago, the project was introduced in East Tambaram when QR codes were placed on properties. Revenue officials conducted a thorough door-to-door campaign to enrol 2,797 property owners in the program. Around 150 residents opted not to participate.Residents can now pay property and water taxes online, access birth and death certificates, and report civic issues through the QR codes linked to their properties. Corporation commissioner R Alagumeena said she will expand this mechanism to cover the remaining 69 wards in the upcoming months. It will include more services such as building plan permissions soon, she said.

Residents fume as distribution of QR-code card done haphazardly

The QR code-based grievance redressal platform in Trichy city has faced criticism as the cards were distributed haphazardly and residents were not given awareness about their purpose or how to use them. Some houses received multiple cards while others were dumped in mailboxes. The purpose of the cards was not explained and no signatures were obtained. The Trichy corporation will investigate the issues. The QR code system allows residents to scan the code from their mobile phones to submit grievances related to various issues.

Tambaram corporation seeks GCC help to tackle stray cattle menace

The Tambaram corporation in Chennai has asked for help from the Greater Chennai Corporation in handling the issue of cattle roaming the streets. They have requested a cattle-lifting vehicle and are considering involving the police if violations continue. The lack of staff and equipment has made it difficult to address this problem. The corporation is also planning to construct a cattle shed in Madambakkam and procure two trucks with lift facilities to catch stray cattle. The health department has identified Anakaputhur and Madambakkam as the areas with the highest number of cattle on the streets.
