Shaheen Bagh-type protest launched in Vaniyambadi

Vellore: Within hours of the statewide protests demanding that the Tamil Nadu government pass a resolution not to implement Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR), Muslim-centric political parties and Islamic organisations launched an indefinite Shaheen Bagh-type protest at Vaniyambadi Aathumedu area in the wee hours of Thursday.

More than 200 Muslim organisation members, including women, held placards and raised slogans demanding that the central government immediately withdraw the CAA, NRC and NPR.

“The protest, which initially began with active participation of 200 members, will reach several thousands in the coming days. We hope that the ruling AIADMK government will soon implement a resolution and pressure the central government to withdraw the CAA, said N Nasir Khan,” a protest organiser.

“All arrangements including safer restrooms for women and children, food and water have been arranged near the protest venue. We will not withdraw the protest untill the state government heeds to our unified demand by passing a resolution,” Nasir Khan said.

Members of DMK, MDMK, SDPI, IUML, TMMK and various other Muslim organisations took part in in the protest in large numbers.
