Though actor Vijay's film, which hit the screens last Diwali, evoked mixed responses, one factor that was unanimously accepted about the film was that it created awareness about Section 49P.

This section empowers a person who seeks to vote after another person has already voted as such elector. Also, the section states that the person should be allowed to vote after ‘satisfactorily answering questions relating to his identity as the presiding officer may ask’.

Section 49P started trending online soon after the release. After three months, #49P has again started to trend on Twitter soon after Murugadoss on Thursday tweeted a picture showing ECI's effort to popularise 49P.

Calling this as 'real' victory, the actor's fans started posting tweets congratulating the movie team for spreading awareness about a lesser-known election rule and creating a positive impact in the society.
