Rotary Club to perform 365 heart surgeries for free
CHENNAI: As part of World Heart Day 2023 on September 29, the Rotary Club will be doing a series of activities to create awareness on cardiovascular health.
The Club has taken up cardiovascular disease prevention as a societal cause and will be performing 365 heart surgeries for free in the year starting from September end.
Dr Susan Verghese, senior ophthalmologist and educationist, highlighted that on the World Heart Day, they would launch a mascot called Daya to create cardiac health awareness in an easily understandable and fun way.
Ahead of the day, Rotary Dist 3232 and over 150 clubs under it assembled at MCC School grounds in Chetpet on September 23, spearheaded by Rotary’s Community Health and Public Image teams to participate in an attempt to form the largest human heart formation.
More than 6,000 Rotarians participated in the attempt to create a Guinness Record, as well as to create awareness on heart health.
Rotarian DGE Saravanan said that there is a steep rise in the number of cardiovascular diseases, even among the young.
Dr Sivamuthukumar, a senior cardiothoracic surgeon, stressed on the importance of exercise, sleep and stress management. He asked everyone to love their hearts and take care of it well. He along with his team demonstrated CPR, a method to save lives in an emergency.
Students of Queen Mary’s College under the guidance of Dr Uma Maheswari, Technical Director, held a sample human heart formation demonstration as a precursor to the 29th event.
