Puducherry police arrest three Chennai men for aiding cyber fraudsters

PUDUCHERRY: The cybercrime police arrested three men from Chennai on charges of aiding cyber criminals based in Hong Kong, who cheated a Puducherry-based man of Rs 7.08 lakh promising high returns on investments in an online earning scheme.

The police said Mohammad Iliyaz of Ennore in Chennai opened a bank account in his name and handed over the bank details and documents to an agent identified as Mohan of Padi, Chennai, and received a commission of Rs 50,000. Mohan handed over the bank details and documents to another agent, identified as Tamilselavam of Nanmangalam in Chennai, who handed over the details with cybercrime fraudsters in Hong Kong after receiving US$2,000 as commission.

The cyber criminals used the bank account details to cheat several people online including the youth from Puducherry after promising high returns on investments and directing them to deposit money in the account. The police seized a car, several mobile phones, SIM cards and Rs 75,000 from the trio.
