CHENNAI: The water resources department said it would remove hyacinths from Chennai’s Retteri lake and drain the polluted water from it by the end of the northeast monsoon. Post that, the department would deepen and desilt the lake.
The Korattur eri canal is bringing sewage water to the Retteri lake.
Chennai Metrowater managing director T G Vinay said the Retteri water supply project would begin after completing all this work.
Water will be treated in a 10MLD water treatment plant at Kolathur. The treated water will be supplied to four lakh residents in Thiru Vi Ka Nagar zone.
