PG medical admission: 150 seats vacant in various courses
In September, the health ministry lowered the eligibility for postgraduate medical education to zero percentile in PG NEET-2023, making every candidate who attended the entrance exam, including those who scored below 40 marks, eligible for admission to postgraduate degree and diploma courses. Students were allowed to register for online counselling in the centrally run Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) webpage and the state counselling website.
Admission for 50% of seats in government colleges is surrendered to the Centre as all India quota seats.
The admission to all India quota seats is done along with those in deemed universities and centrally run medical colleges by MCC. Meanwhile, admission to state quota seats in government colleges, and seats in all self-financing medical colleges are done by the state selection committee.
The state selection committee, which released a fresh list of eligible candidates, has opened the portal for students to choose preferred courses and colleges in the order of preference. At least 19 seats in general medicine, 13 in obstetrics and gynaecology, and 12 in anaesthesia were vacant besides seats in ENT, orthopaedics, emergency medicine, paediatrics, dermatology, and non-clinical streams such as anatomy and biochemistry.
According to the revised admission schedule, choice-locking will be available till 5pm on Wednesday and results will be declared on Thursday. Students will have time to join the colleges allocated to them until October 10.

542 seats vacant in 40 courses at DAVV after counselling
A significant number of students at Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya in Indore have failed to confirm their admissions, leaving 542 seats vacant across various undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The university will hold college level counselling on October 4 and 5, with preference given to students who appeared for the Common University Entrance Test. Remaining seats will be available to students who have completed class 12 and graduation, but they will be required to pay an additional fee. In other news, there are also several vacant seats in colleges in Indore, with approximately 13,000 seats unoccupied in undergraduate courses.
All seats in Tamil Nadu medical colleges are alloted, barring seven
All seats in state medical colleges in Chennai have been allotted during stray rounds. Students who do not join their allotted colleges by Saturday will face a year-long debarment. The Supreme Court must approve the filling of these vacant seats. The National Medical Commission has implemented stricter rules to ensure only serious contenders participate in the last round of admissions. Freshmen have already begun classes in most medical colleges across the country.
