Panchayat union president, his son held for assaulting VCK supporter

Villupuram: Police on Sunday arrested a panchayat union president and his son, of the DMK, on charges of assaulting a VCK supporter for accusing them of mining sand illegally in a village near Gingee. Police, who identified the arrested as Meenampur panchayat union president Munvar Basha and his son Liyath Ali, also booked about 20 supporters of Munvar and are hunting for them. Police also booked the VCK supporter and four others on a complaint lodged by Munvar Basha. Inquiries showed there was bad blood between the two since the last local body elections.tnn
