Modern medical system sees body as a machine: Tamil Nadu governor
CHENNAI: Heaping praise on the traditional system of medicines, Tamil Nadu governor R N Ravi on Thursday said the modern medicine system sees the human body as a machine but the traditional system of medicine sees body, mind and soul as a single entity.
The governor, in his interaction with AYUSH and traditional medical practitioners as part of his 'Think to Dare' series, said, "Modern medical sciences treat body parts separately. If the liver stops functioning, they replace the liver... But the traditional system of medicine does not see the human body as a mere physical entity."
"The human body is more than a physical entity. Based on the principle, the traditional medicine system has been treating people for ages. They should not be overshadowed by modern medical science," the governor said.
He said post Covid-19, there was greater acceptance for AYUSH. "Our Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) gave a boost to AYUSH by incorporating it (in mainstream medicine). AYUSH came up with different kinds of kashayams and churams (concoctions) for treating people," said the governor.
"The AYUSH market has grown in India, and it is almost 23 to 24 billion US dollars. The export market of AYUSH is now two billion dollars which shows that there is a greater acceptance for AYUSH," the governor said.
