Harman opens new engg centre in Chennai

Chennai: Harman, an automotive electronics technology company and subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, is opening a new automotive engineering centre in Chennai. The new Chennai centre will be fully functional by the second quarter of this year, and Harman will begin operations with a workforce of 200 employees in the first year. Harman did not specify the amount of investment in the new centre.The new centre is located at RMZ One Paramount in Porur, and Harman hopes to tap into Chennai’s rich talent pool of automotive engineers and researchers through it.The Chennai centre will cater to both global and Indian OEMs and will work in tandem with the other key centres, including Bengaluru and Pune, to develop advanced automotive technologies, Prathab Deivanayagham, MD, Harman India, said. “As a hub for automotive engineering and software talent, Chennai is the suitable location to attract top talent and foster a collaborative work culture that aligns with Harman's global ethos,” he added.Harman’s India R & D centre was established in 2009, and has close to 10,000 employees out of 32,000 employees globally. The India teams work on products and platforms across Intelligent cockpits, Car Audio, Telematics and ADAS for both Indian customers such as TATA, Maruti and global OEMs as well. Harman makes connected products and solutions for automakers, consumers, and enterprises worldwide, including connected car systems, audio and visual products, enterprise automation solutions; and services supporting the Internet of Things.
