CHENNAI: BJP national general secretary and TN in-charge for elections C T Ravi and BJP state chief K Annamalai on Friday met AIADMK interim general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami and former AIADMK coordinator O Panneerselvam to discuss the BJP's stand on the Erode East bypoll.

Annamalai along with Ravi met EPS at his residence and discussed with him the party's stand on the bypoll and passed on to the AIADMK leader a message from the BJP high command. After a detailed discussion, Annamalai held a brief meeting with Ravi at a private hotel and then rushed to meet OPS where he held a similar discussion. Annamalai along with Ravi had arrived in Chennai late on Thursday evening after a meeting with senior BJP leaders in New Delhi.

After the meetings with EPS and OPS, Ravi told reporters in Kamalalayam that he urged both of them to work together to defeat the DMK alliance. "I conveyed the message of our party president J P Nadda to EPS and OPS. I cannot disclose what I spoke privately with them. I argued with them to work unitedly in the interests of Tamil Nadu and to defeat the DMK alliance in the Erode East bypoll," said Ravi.

When asked about the stand of the BJP on the bypoll and their support to either EPS or OPS, Ravi said, "The last date for filing nominations is February 7, and there is still time to decide." He dubbed the DMK 'a destructive force.'.
