CHENNAI: Ahead of the February 27 Erode East byelection, the income tax department has set up a control room to monitor the expenditure by political parties.
The control room, which has been set up as sought by the Election Commission, will function round the clock to discover and seize unaccounted funds intended to be utilised for electioneering.
A dedicated toll-free number has been provided to tip-off the I-T officials about the cash distribution and illegal cash transfer. The toll-free number is 1800 425 6669 and fax number is 044-28271915.
The public can also alert the department through email itcontrol.chn@gov.in or via WhatsApp (No 9445394453).
People, who have knowledge and information about storage or possession or movement of large amount of cash, jewellery or other valuables, can alert the officials using any of the options. The informant's identity would be kept confidential, said the I-T department.
