Criminal evades arrest for 25 years, arrested at last in TN

CUDDALORE: The Vridhachalam police have arrested a notorious criminal who had been evading justice and remaining in hiding for the past 25 years. The arrested man has been identified as C Muthuraman,52, from the Manalmedu area in Mayiladuthurai district.

Police said the case dates to 1996. Acting on a tip-off that Muthuraman and a few others were plotting to execute an unlawful incident near Aladi Road in Virudhachalam, a police team rushed to the spot to apprehend them. In a desperate bid to escape, Muthuraman hurled a country bomb at the police personnel and managed to flee the scene.

Police arrested him, and a case was subsequently registered and tried in the Vridhachalam judicial magistrate's court. However, Muthuraman failed to appear for the court hearings, went into hiding and had evaded the law for the last 25 years.
