TRICHY: Lok Sabha deputy speaker M

Thambi Durai

on Wednesday expressed confidence that the BJP will form the government once again at the Centre, and said that the AIADMK will be part of the government. He also said that said that the AIADMK’s pre-poll alliance with the BJP will ensure the welfare of the state.

Speaking at Pasupathypalayam in

Karur

district on Wednesday, Thambi Durai said that with the AIADMK in the opposition it used to be difficult to bargain with the Centre. But, being part of the ruling coalition will keep the party in a better position to demand for the welfare of the state.

Asked about forging alliance with Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) which had opposed a memorial for former chief minister J Jayalalithaa, Thambi Durai said, “Political parties take different stands at different times. Moreover, this is not the first time that we are in alliance with the PMK. The primary objective is to defeat our enemy DMK in the general elections.”

On DMK leader M K Stalin’s criticism of AIADMK-led alliance, Thambi Durai said Stalin’s words reflects his frustration. “He knows that people would reject his party, be it local body, assembly or general polls. People have not forgotten the betrayal of DMK-Congress led alliance during the Eelam war,” he said.

Responding to former TNCC president Thirunavukkarasar who said that the AIADMK-BJP alliance is a forced marriage, Thambi Durai said that he is no priest to say this.
