11-year-old slips, drowns in canal

CHENNAI: A Class 5 student died after he slipped and drowned in the Krishna Canal near Uthukottai on Saturday.
The boy D Logesh, 11, a resident of Mela Chitrambakkam near Uthukottai, went to the canal with his mother. After a few hours, when she couldn’t find him, she assumed that he returned home. When she reached home, she was shocked to see her son missing, she told police.
Logesh’s father Devendran, an employee of a private company, and other family members searched the neighbourhood for the missing boy.
They rushed to the canal after a few passers-by alerted them that a child’s body was floating in the water. The Uthukottai police recovered the boy’s body and sent it to a hospital in Ponneri for autopsy.
