Women’s body seeks report on college girl’s murder

Shimla: Taking suo motu cognisance of the brutal murder of the 19-year-old college student, Siya Guleria, the National Commission for Women has sought the action taken report from the Himachal Pradesh police department within seven days.In a statement, NCW chairperson Vijaya K Rahatkar said the murder raised serious concerns about the safety of girls in and around educational institutions, and that "the commission strongly condemns this reprehensible act and expresses deep anguish".The statement further read that the chairperson had directed the DGP, Himachal Pradesh, to ensure a thorough and time-bound investigation, forensic examination and protection to the victim's family.The chairperson has sought a detailed action taken report within seven days, it added.Siya Guleria was allegedly attacked and brutally killed by Vikas Patial on April 13 while she was on her way to college in the Gopalpur area of the Sarkaghat sub-division of Mandi district.Vikas was apprehended by the locals within hours of the murder and handed over to the police.MSID:: 130331646 413 |Get real-time updates and result insights on the CBSE 12 Result 2026.
